How do you select filter bag material based on process temperature and gas composition?
Enter process temperature and gas composition (H2O, O2, SO2, NO2, HCl, HF); the tool lists suitable, borderline and unsuitable bag materials based on the polymer temperature/chemical limits in Hantech's Excel-based material selection program.
Method and source
The temperature/chemical limit curves in this tool are carried over 1:1 from Hantech's own Excel-based material selection program (Material Selection, sourced from BWF's polymer database) — 11 bag materials (PP, AC, DT, DT-PE, Polyester, PPS, Nomex, P84/PI, PTFE, and PI-PSA/PTFE-PSA blends), each with continuous/peak temperature and H2O/O2/NO2/SO2/HCl/HF limits.
- Some limits are temperature-dependent rather than fixed (H2O for the PE/DT/DT-PE/AC/NO/PI families; O2 and NO2 for the PPS/PI families) and are calculated with formulas that vary with temperature.
- Water dew point and (if SO3 is entered) acid dew point are also calculated and compared against continuous temperature — condensation/hydrolysis risk is flagged early.
- If HCl is present: zinc (galvanized) should not be used on the cage/components — galvanized coating can be risky in a chloride environment.

This tool is for preliminary screening; it uses the fixed limits from Hantech's Excel-based material selection program. Final material decisions require site data, dust character, emission targets and supplier technical approval (datasheet).
