How do you convert area/housing length between a pleated (HanStarBag) bag and a round bag?
Convert a round bag design to a pleated (HanStarBag) bag — or vice versa — at the same bag diameter (Ø) and count, while preserving the same total filtration area. The tool holds the target area fixed and calculates the required housing length (L), which usually means a shorter housing for the same performance.
Formulas and method
Round single bag area: A_round = pi x (dia/1000) x (L_round/1000) + pi x (dia/2000)^2
Pleated single bag area: A_pleated = k x pi x (dia/1000) x (L_pleated/1000) + pi x (dia/2000)^2
Same-area condition: A_round = A_pleated -> L_pleated = (A_round - pi x (dia/2000)^2) x 1000 / (k x pi x (dia/1000))
- At the same diameter and count, switching to pleated while preserving the same total area shortens the housing length (L) — usually meaning a shorter/more compact housing.
- Bottom cap (disk) area is included in both geometries.
- The area coefficient (k) should be verified against the real datasheet value; 2.5x is a single reference/mid-range value.
